Margaret E. Heidt

Margaret Egloff Heidt, 90, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Effingham Extended Care Center, Springfield, Georgia, after an extended illness.

Born in Wichita, Kansas, she was the youngest child of George Eugene Egloff, M.D. and Emma Blanchaine Egloff. The family moved to Savannah after WWI, settling in Thunderbolt where her father was the small town's only doctor, and where she spent some of the happiest days of her life, crabbing, fishing, and swimming in the river.

She was a graduate of Savannah High School, and was a member of the first graduating class of the new Armstrong Junior College.

A long time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, she was active in the ECW, Bible Study, and outreach services, and served many years as a Pink Lady volunteer with St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary.

Before her illness she enjoyed weekly bridge games with her friends at St. Thomas' Senior Friendship Days.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James Mason Heidt, Sr., her son, James Mason Heidt, Jr., and her sisters: Ruth Egloff Aimar and Jeanette Egloff Richter.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Murray Marshall, daughter-in-law, Emory Wells Heidt, Grandchildren: Stewart and Kelley Marshall, Margaret Marshall Bishop, Joseph and Robin Marshall, Jim and Kate Marshall, Jameson and Ronnie Hall, and Mason and Krista Heidt, ten great-granchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the fine staff of Effingham Extended Care Center and the wonderful technicians of the Cardio-Pulmonary Unit for their excellent care, love and friendship during her residence.
